In June 2021 Sreyash Krishna Pisipati, our eldest son, ( nine-year-old) suffered a sudden brain hemorrhage caused by an undiagnosed arteriovenous malformation (AVM). a rare tangle of blood vessels in the brain that can remain hidden until it triggers a fatal hemorrhage. Sreyash, 9 years 4 months old, was a happy child living his life to the fullest until he suddenly complained of a headache on the last day of his 3rd grade school. Despite emergency care and transfer to UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland, he was declared brain dead three days later. After a week in palliative care at UCSF, we had no choice but to kiss him goodbye forever as he became an organ donor – his kidneys saving the lives of a 6-year-old and a 46-year-old. We also donated his brain tissue to UCSF researchers, in the hope of uncovering answers about his AVM.

What began as a UCSF fundraising in 2022 has grown into this foundation. Through it, we honor Sreyash’s life by supporting critical research, raising awareness, and standing beside families on this difficult journey. 

For us, the grief of losing Sreyash has been indescribable. Yet, in the midst of this darkness, Dr. Nikhil Gupta’s research offered us a renewed sense of purpose. In our search for answers, we connected with doctors at UCSF, and the groundbreaking research on identifying the  roots of AVM offered  hope for earlier detection and life-saving treatments. 

In 2022, we began privately fundraising to support AVM research, rallying the support of our friends, family, and professional networks.Through this nonprofit, we honor Sreyash’s journey by helping other families find answers sooner, connect with much-needed support, and hold on to hope. Every story matters. Together, we can ensure that no family faces this road alone. With your support, we can work toward a brighter future — and one day, a cure — for children affected by AVM.
